    Solitude of the Party

The thought, the concept and decisions underlying the origins of the building changed together with the changes of the political scene. In 1948, parties PPR and PSS united, creating thus PZPR. In the same year, PSL united with SL, creating ZSL, and two years later, as most of the SP members joined the SD, the SP suspended its activity, with SD left on the scene. Thus, before the Home of Parties was completed in 1962, out of 6 stake holders initially willing to dwell in the building, only 3 were still there.

However, after uniting PSL wanted some more independence and started thinking about its own seat named (Dom Ch³opa - Peasant's House). SD acted likewise and got its own headquarters in Rutkowskiego Street (now Chmielna Street). The House of Parties was left to PZPR alone. The name of the building, now getting a new dimension, was commonly used until the end of the 1960s. In the 1970s, the popular name changed into the "White House", relating to the powerful American executive office. Just this feeling of power resulted in originating a new name at that time - "Edifice of the KC PZPR" (PZPR Central Committee), which in the 1980s was shortened to "KC" only.

Until the mid-70s, the building was homing the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers Party (KC PZPR), the Regional Committee and the Warsaw Committee. After administration reform in Poland in the 1970s, the Regional Committee was dissolved and the Warsaw Committee moved to Chopin Street. The only survivor was the Central Committee now.
